Write about a random act of kindness you’ve done for someone.

Sometimes, the smallest gestures leave the deepest footprintsβnot just in someone else’s life, but in your own.
It was a chilly monsoon afternoon in Mumbai, and I was heading home after a frustrating day. The trains were packed, my umbrella had given up on me, and everything I was carrying was soggyβincluding my patience.
At a traffic signal, I saw a frail elderly man sitting beneath a leaking billboard, trying to shield a bundle of old newspapers from the rain. I wouldnβt have noticed him, to be honest, if he hadnβt smiled. Not the kind of smile that begs or pleads. Justβ¦ warm. Like he still believed the world had good in it.
Something tugged at me.
There was a modest South Indian eatery across the road. Without much thought, I went in, ordered a hot mealβsteaming idlis, spicy sambar, and a cup of filter coffee. I didnβt ask if he was hungry. I just walked over, handed it to him, and said, βYou look like you could use a warm meal.β
He didnβt say a word. He simply nodded, placed his hands together in a gentle namaste, and began to eat. I left before he finished. It wasnβt about watching someone be grateful. It was just about doing something, quietly, without expectation.
That moment stayed with me. Not because it made me feel generous or noble. But because it reminded me that kindness isnβt complicated. It doesnβt require a reason, a plan, or a stage. Sometimes, itβs just about doing somethingβwhen everything else tells you to keep walking.
We often underestimate how powerful a random act of kindness can be. But in that actβhowever smallβyouβre telling someone: you matter. And sometimes, that message is the only thing a person needs to keep going.
Until tomorrow,
UncommonPen
