Learning to Grow Into Leadership

Do you see yourself as a leader?

“True leadership is not about being in frontβ€”it’s about lighting the path for others.”

Leadership is a word that often feels too big for meβ€”like a heavy coat that doesn’t quite fit yet. When I think of a leader, I imagine someone standing at the front of a room, speaking with confidence, and having all the answers. That image doesn’t always align with who I am.

But then again, leadership isn’t just about commanding a crowd. Sometimes, it’s about quietly guiding, setting an example, or being the one people turn to when things feel uncertain.

I’ve noticed small ways where leadership shows up in my life:

  • In conversations, when friends look to me for advice.
  • In projects, when I naturally step in to organize and keep things moving.
  • In personal choices, when I hold onto my values even if it means standing apart.

Do I see myself as a leader? Not always in the traditional sense. But I do believe leadership isn’t about titles or positionsβ€”it’s about influence, responsibility, and the willingness to carry others forward, even in small ways.

Maybe I’m still learning to grow into that β€œbig coat.” And maybe that’s what makes leadership realβ€”it’s not about being perfect, but about being willing.
