Learning to Grow Into Leadership

Do you see yourself as a leader?

“True leadership is not about being in frontโ€”itโ€™s about lighting the path for others.”

Leadership is a word that often feels too big for meโ€”like a heavy coat that doesnโ€™t quite fit yet. When I think of a leader, I imagine someone standing at the front of a room, speaking with confidence, and having all the answers. That image doesnโ€™t always align with who I am.

But then again, leadership isnโ€™t just about commanding a crowd. Sometimes, itโ€™s about quietly guiding, setting an example, or being the one people turn to when things feel uncertain.

Iโ€™ve noticed small ways where leadership shows up in my life:

  • In conversations, when friends look to me for advice.
  • In projects, when I naturally step in to organize and keep things moving.
  • In personal choices, when I hold onto my values even if it means standing apart.

Do I see myself as a leader? Not always in the traditional sense. But I do believe leadership isnโ€™t about titles or positionsโ€”itโ€™s about influence, responsibility, and the willingness to carry others forward, even in small ways.

Maybe Iโ€™m still learning to grow into that โ€œbig coat.โ€ And maybe thatโ€™s what makes leadership realโ€”itโ€™s not about being perfect, but about being willing.
